Google is slowly expanding its Glass Explorer program and the latest development is an opportunity to sign up to be notified when a space opens up for access to the head-mounted technology. In the past Google has to invite you or you had to know (and be invited by) one of the original set of Glass Explorers.
Now interested parties can just add their names to a waiting list which has been newly added to the Glass Explorer website. The signup seems to be primarily for prospective American users but there is an option for those from other countries to express their interest in purchasing and using Google Glass. It’d probably be in a South African Explorer-wannabe’s best interest to sign up now anyway, since they’ll be close to the top of the starting grid when the project expands this way.
The Verge reports that Google isn’t giving away how many Glass units will become available through the sign-up but that it won’t be tied to next year’s retail launch. It’s possible that they may use the new form to gauge market interest in other countries, determining when and where Google Glass will be making its appearances in stores.
