Just before the weekend, a report surfaced that Apple is finally preparing to update its long-quiet Mac Mini line. And now, it seems that a Retina display-equipped iMac may be right alongside it. Both were presaged this summer, with an Apple support listing hinting at both new iMac and Mac Mini models. Apple did release a new low-end iMac in June, but it’s been a year since a proper line-wide refresh. 9to5Mac’s sources indicate that the first iMacs with Retina displays are “in late testing stages” at Apple, which means a launch could be imminent. With OS X Yosemite set…

After releasing a new model on a more-or-less annual basis for a few good years, Apple’s Mac Mini has gone dormant – next month marks two years since the last refresh. But that’s reportedly about to change. MacRumors reports that sources indicate that a new Mac Mini model will be announced alongside the iPad Air 2 at an event next month. The new model will almost certainly launch with OS X Yosemite pre-installed, so the updated OS ought to be just around the corner, as well. A recent Apple support page indicated that new Mac Mini and iMac models were…

HTC hasn’t been terribly subtle about its next tech foray, with an October event invitation and teaser video both making it clear that a GoPro-esque action camera is imminent. And now it has leaked. The HTC RECamera is its name, and the tiny video camera looks quite a bit like plastic tubing. In the image left, you can see how versatile it will likely be, with mounts for straps and all other sorts of contraptions surely available. These images came from HTC’s own unpublicized (and now pulled) RECamera site, discovered by a Reddit user, and the info also hints at…

If you’re one of the unlucky users whose iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus lost cell service and Touch ID functionality after installing iOS 8.0.1 yesterday, good news: another update is already available. Launched just over a day after Apple’s update fiasco, iOS 8.0.2 purports to fix all of the problems introduced by yesterday’s version, and so far, it doesn’t appear that users are experiencing any new hardware issues as a result of updating. Granted, if your cellular service is busted, you’ve got little to lose by updating now. Everyone else might consider waiting a day, or at least a…

The new Samsung Galaxy Note 4 was unleashed on the world at IFA in early September like some kind of smartphone apex predator, ready to pick off the zebras and wildebeest of the tech world. BlackBerry has officially launched the Passport – a quirky keyboard-toting smartphone with a design that’ll take some getting used to. It’s certainly a looker (in more ways than one) and arrives packing modern specs along with a few surprises. Here’s what you need to know: 1. It has a square screen The Passport’s unusual physique is all thanks to its almost-square 4.5in 1440 x 1400 453ppi display, beneath which lies the legendary keyboard our fingers first fell in love with all those years ago, and all over again with the launch of the Q10. BlackBerry Passport BlackBerry boasts that the…

Apple has long been expected to debut a new version of the iPad Air this autumn, with a new iPad Mini expected right alongside it. However, a new report claims the latter won’t be the case. According to Taiwan’s Commercial Times, the so-called iPad Air 2 will indeed launch in October, with production ramping up now. The tablet is expected to feature the iPhone 6’s A8 processor, along with its M8 motion coprocessor and Touch ID fingerprint sensor – both firsts for the iPad. However, that same report says that Apple will hold off on releasing the latest version of…

When iOS 8 launched last week, it came saddled with the usual array of relatively minor new version issues – and Apple acted quickly to get a new version, 8.0.1, out today. Only it arrived with even bigger problems in tow. Many users who grabbed the iOS 8.0.1 update yesterday on an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus reported an inability to connect to their respective wireless carriers, as well as use the Touch ID sensor on the devices. In response, Apple quickly pulled the update, which doesn’t appear to have the same effect on older iOS devices. “We are…

Apple CEO Tim Cook spoke extensively with Bloomberg Businessweek for its latest issue, and now the full interview is on the web – with a few choice bits on the Apple Watch included. One interesting feature is the ability to control your Apple TV directly from the watch, so you don’t have to worry about misplacing the tiny remote or finding your nearest iOS device. And Cook teased much more functionality around the home, perhaps hinting at HomeKit integration. “It has the ability to control things,” he said. “I’m using Apple TV as an example, but you might use your…

The Nexus 5 was a big favourite here in the Stuff office. While it’s currently sitting a ways down our list of the 10 best smartphones in the world, it still holds a special place in our hearts. But all good things must come to an end, and the Nexus 5 is already yesterday’s tech. Ever since smartphones like the HTC One M8, Samsung Galaxy S5 and LG G3 arrived, we turned our fickle eyes towards the Nexus 6. Google hasn’t officially announced anything about it yet, but that doesn’t mean we’re completely in the dark. Here’s everything we think…
