My gamertag is more useful than a business card. I write about the tech industry, hardware, software, games, and motoring.

Fitness trackers are mighty useful, but rarely fashionable. Or that’s what Fitbit thought when it released the Fitbit Luxe — a tracker that’s supposed to look more like a piece of jewellery than a watch. But is it be able to keep you on track? According to the newly-owned-by-Google wearable company, the Luxe is designed for those who want style with their stats. Our review unit came with a plain old black band which took away from the ‘fashion’ aesthetic — but it’s supposed to look like a bracelet-inspired fitness tracker. At least it features decent five-day battery life. We…

Facebook experienced its largest outage since 2019 on Monday (4 October) after it experienced internal DNS issues. Well, that’s according to the company itself, but that’s the narrative we’ll go with for now.  Well-placed diversion More pressing, however, is how the global outage of Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp fairly successfully flooded the internet.  You know what that does? It helps push down other recent news articles — like those reporting on the recent ex-Facebook employee whistleblower leaking documents that detail how the company prioritises cash money over the well-being of its users.  That’s just how the news cycle works in…

Now, it’s revealed that FNB virtual cards will function via third-party digital payment wallets, including Samsung Pay, Garmin Pay and Fitbit Pay.  The bank also announced that it has surpassed R1 billion in payments via its virtual card payment system since it launched — which is a rather large number. “It’s particularly pleasing to note that this substantial value of payments was recorded in just nine months to mid-September 2021 on approximately 500,000 FNB and RMB Private Bank Virtual Cards,” says FNB payments executive Raj Makanjee. Asus has continuously offered brilliant gaming gadgets in recent years under its Republic of Gamers (ROG) label and it’s not showing signs of slowing down. This time, we’re showing you something very unique. And while it offers an impressive proposition, we’re not sure where it fits into the gaming community quite yet.  The ROG Flow X13 is a lightweight 13in slab of beauty. It’s tiny, weighs less than a MacBook and offers the convertible format that’s popular for workstations.  Nevertheless, the build quality is top-notch…

If you do one thing before lockdown runs out: play Deathloop. No, seriously. If we weren’t here writing this review, we’d be playing Deathloop.  The latest title by Arkane Studios, the ones who made Dishonored, brings a vivid 60s aesthetic and a wonderfully wacky storyline to PS5s and PCs this year. We reviewed the title on our PlayStation 5.  If you played Dishonored, you’d know that Arkane loves to show off its brilliant formula consisting of dynamic combat, ingenious puzzles and expansive verticality. The wonderful thing about Dethloop is that it managed to improve on this formula without any real…

While we all know how Stadia’s managing presently, we’re betting Microsoft can knock out a brilliant alternative come the launch of xCloud.  Xbox, meet the xCloud According to reports, xCloud will integrate with GamePass and allow current players…

We all knew this was coming, but it’s nice to see some tangible evidence of a tech company doing what the rumour mill churned out months before. Netflix has now officially acquired Night School Studio — the gaming studio that developed Oxenfree. In addition, it’s begun rolling out its gaming offering in Europe.  About a month ago, the streaming service started testing its new feature in Poland, where Netflix subscribers started gaining access to games through their subscriptions. The trial included two mobile games: Stranger Things 1984 and Stranger Things 3. Not Netflieks anymore Night School Studio is the streaming…
