We’ve often thought of mounting action cams onto cats to see what it is that they actually do all day but we couldn’t take the sight of all that wanton rodent-slaughter. But Nikon’s gone the other direction and made themselves a camera that can be operated by dogs. Or by a dog’s heartbeat, at any rate. The experiment is called Heartography and while it seems to be a promo for their Coolpix L31 camera, it’s still a pretty cool concept. Nikon 3D-printed a custom casing for their point-and-shoot which is connected to a heart-rate monitor, like the ones you get…

By now you will have hopefully heard about the Bloodhound SSC, the supersonic car that will be in South Africa later this year in a frankly bonkers attempt to shatter the world land-speed record. The group behind Bloodhound are hoping to pass the current record by about 400km/h. That’s no small increase, for a top speed of at least 1,610km/h at the end of the day. While we’re waiting for that countdown clock for the supersonic record attempt to start, here’s what you need to know about the Bloodhound. Who is responsible for the Bloodhound attempt? There is a…

Microsoft’s going all-in with the Windows 10 operating system, going so far as to be releasing a Phone Companion app that will allow both Android and iOS smartphone users to more closely integrate their mobiles with the new OS. The Phone Companion app has a couple of features but one notable item is Cortana, Microsoft’s digital assistant. Microsoft says that “The ‘Phone Companion’ app on the PC will help you install the Cortana app from the Google Play or Apple App Store onto your phone so you’ll be able to take the intelligence of Cortana with you, wherever you go.” That’s…

Samsung’s toned down their smartphone release schedule but that doesn’t mean that they’ve abandoned their tendency to create weird and wonderful devices. If a new patent application is any indication, they’re considering ways to turn a phablet into a full-fledged notebook computer. The application, revealed by the US Patent and Trademark Office’s website, was discovered by Patently Mobile. It outlines a way to use a phablet, like Samsung’s Galaxy Note devices, as an Android gadget. Slot it into a dock – which looks an awful lot like a notebook with a gaping hole in it – and it switches over to…

It’s all getting too big to be ignored. Apple’s rumour mill has been spinning like a stationary bike in an upmarket gym and it’s time for a rundown of everything that has come out of the speculation and unconfirmed reports. So far, that is, as we’re fully expecting that there will be more to come as we get closer to the reveal date of Apple’s new products. Whenever that is. iPhone 6s/6c/7 We could have an iPhone 6c on the way Seriously? Apparently, yes. And, then again, perhaps not. There have been a few sightings of what might be a…

Not everyone can be Tony Stark, that’s kind of the whole point of having a Tony Stark hanging around. It’s the fact that he’s a limited edition that makes him awesome. So it’s not surprising that the Iron Man edition of the Galaxy S6 Edge, recently unveiled (officially) by Samsung, is going to have a limited run. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wB6MId15cpo As you might have seen in Samsung’s unboxing video, this 64GB S6 Edge comes in the red and gold of the Iron Man suit from Avengers: Age of Ultron, the film tie-in to this release. The phone’s theme is based on the…

Blast, just as we started seeing actual Firefox OS phones in South Africa the company has decided that they’re going to be changing their focus when it comes to handsets. Oh, they’ll still be making them but they’re not going to be focusing on affordable handsets quite as much. An email sent last week by Mozilla CEO Chris Beard breaks down what is happening to their handsets. A plan, known as Ignite, is apparently the next phase of the Firefox OS and will wind up “…focusing more on the user experience, and tying Firefox OS more deeply into our mission…

Following several delays, Batman: Arkham Knight is on track to launch in a little under a month’s time. When 23 June rolls around, we can expect to once again to take control of Gotham’s greatest hero as he faces off against the biggest threat that has faced his city since this series of adventures began. First there was a tight situation at the Arkham Asylum facility for the criminally insane and then a mess in Arkham City, an open-world prison for Gotham’s criminals. But Arkham Knight (we’re not counting Origins, for reasons that will become apparent) is scaling everything up…

We’re still not sure what the final naming convention for the upcoming iPhone will be (who are we kidding, it’s… 99% certain that it’s the iPhone 6s) but other details seems to be spilling out readily enough. This time the iPhone’s camera has entered the rumour will, with Chinese news website Feng claiming to have the low-down. Apple will apparently be switching away from the RGB sensor that the company has favoured in the past, replacing it with a Sony RBGW sensor. If this is the case, then the upcoming iPhone should sport improved low-light performance and the phone hasn’t…

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bfa9HrieUyQ Apparently this hoverboard has enough power. Not only is it the record-holder for distance, with a total of 275.9 metres covered in a single… flight(?), it does all of this over water. The creation of a Canadian, Catalin Alexandru Duru, the propeller-lifted hoverboard has more in common with the average hovercraft than some of the mag-lev boards we’ve seen in recent months. It’s also got more in common with a drone and/or blender – there might be guards in place over the fan blades but it’d probably still dice things quite nicely on landing. The record, and it’s an authentic Guinness…
