E3 2021 has come to an end. This year’s conference was different in many ways from previous years. For starters, like pretty much everything these days, it was hosted entirely online. Secondly, some developers came right out and told us which games they will not be showing. Presumably in an attempt to deflate some of the hype that has always surrounded these kinds of events. In some cases, that kind of hype can be dangerous. In the same breath, speculating and predicting the surprises is half the fun. That being said, it isn’t like we won’t be seeing anything at…

Turtle Beach, usually known for its gaming headsets, is swimming out into uncharted waters (for them anyway): flight simulation controls. At E3 this year, the company announced that it will release the VelocityOne Flight, a universal flight control system. This will include an impressive array of tools, which is to be expected from a collaboration with aeronautical engineers and pilots. Turtle Beach shows us how to fly The flight system will provide users with a realistic 180-degree yoke handle, tuned for smooth and precise adjustments, apparently. You will also have access to the rudder controls, toe brake buttons and a full-colour…
Day three of E3 2021 has come and gone. Closing out the day was Razer, who did their very own presentation, all by themselves. They grow up so fast. Here is a round-up of everything they had to show us. AMD powered Razer Blade 14 Razer is touting its new Blade 14 as being the “world’s fastest 14-inch gaming laptop” and with the inclusion of newly released AMD 5000 mobile series chips and Nvidia RTX 3080 GPUs it very well might be. This marks the first time the company has moved away from using Intel chips in its laptops since they…
There are many different rumours circulating about Samsung’s new smartwatch offerings. All of them will either be confirmed or denied at the company’s online-only event on 28 June at Mobile World Congress (MWC) Barcelona 2021, if they don’t let the cat out of the bag the day before. If Samsung sticks to their current naming convention then we should be hearing more about the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch Active 4 at MWC, alongside the rumoured three high-end devices the company is expected to announce: the Galaxy S21 FE (assuming chip shortages don’t cook its goose), Galaxy Z Fold…
If you take a look at the Xbox Series X and think to yourself “Hey, this kind of looks like a fridge,” then you aren’t alone. Most of the internet had the same thought back when the console was announced. Microsoft even took to Twitter to assure fans that the Series X will indeed be smaller than an actual fridge. Fast forward a bit to March of this year where Xbox and Skittles (of all companies) were the finalists of a Twitter competition to crown the best brand on the platform called “Best of Tweets Brand Bracket”. Xbox narrowly beat Skittles with 50.5% of…
Archer Aviation has revealed the Maker, its first urban air mobility vehicle prototype, for testing and certification. If all goes well then expect to see a larger production model. Don’t expect to see them here in SA anytime soon, however. The Maker, much like a drone, is an eVTOL craft. eVTOL, or electric vertical take-off and landing, does not need long, spacious runways to take-off or land and can use much more space-efficient helipads. Once airborne, it channels its inner Optimus Prime and transforms into an aeroplane so it can be quieter and faster. Powering the Maker is a total…
It has arrived: the moment gamers have been looking forward to for the better part of a year, E3 2021. After the convention was cancelled last year due to that pesky global pandemic, we welcomed the news that this year the convention will go ahead, albeit entirely online. Geoff Keighley kicks this year’s event off with his Summer Game Fest, during which we saw a slew of game trailers and announcements. We’ve put together a short list of the biggest announcements so far. Elden Ring The long-awaited collaboration between From Software, the studio that brought you Dark Souls, and the…
In case you missed it, yesterday DICE gave us our first look at Battlefield 2042, the newest addition to the franchise during their live-stream event hosted on YouTube. It came after much speculation and teasing, the last of which was on 1 June. The developer is looking to shake things up in the franchise since its last two games, Battlefield 1 (2016) and Battlefield V (2018), both of which failed to match the success of the very popular and still played, Battlefield 4 (2013). Battlefield 2042 takes the franchise to the year, wait for it, 2042. Bet you didn’t see that one coming. So while…
UPDATE: According to Simon Butler, the Chief Commercial Officer at Vumatel, “The outage experienced in Johannesburg this morning was due to a broadcast storm, originating from a third party switch in our Vosloorus POP (Point of Presence). This has since been resolved and services have been fully restored.” So, it seems for now, we can all rest a little easier as this outage doesn’t look like it will be an ongoing problem. But we will update you should that change. ORIGINAL ARTICLE: This morning, much of Gauteng and some parts of the Western Cape awoke to find they had lost…
Razer listened to what the wireless earbud gamers have (presumably) been asking for, and will provide them with another edition to the Hammerhead range, the Hammerhead True Wireless X. The new buds lack the THX certification and active noise cancellation of the Wireless Pros, and the IP rating of the True Wireless non-X. They do, however, feature 13mm custom-tuned drivers and a 60ms low-latency gaming mode. Razer hits the nail on the Hammerhead They also have most of the features you would expect from wireless earbuds in 2021. Each earbud comes with customisable LED-backlit touch controls (which could go well…
