Back in 2018, BMW South Africa opted to end production of the popular 3-series sedan and instead started manufacturing their Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV), the X3, at the Rosslyn plant, just outside Pretoria. At that stage over 1 million 3-series sedans had rolled off the line. Since then the Rosslyn plant has completed over 200,000 X3s, with the models from the 27th of August being the new 2022 model. At a media event earlier this week, we had a chance to drive two of the available models, the xDrive 20d and the M40i. This time around, BMW sought to bring…

The Samsung M5 smart monitor is a touch confusing. At first, we didn’t really see where it sat in the market. At first glance, it looks like tries to be too many things at once but does nothing well enough for anything to be considered a standout feature. It’s only after we spent some time with it, exploring the different features, that could we see how this might be the first step in the direction of a world where PC monitors and TVs are one and the same. Usually, a monitor review, like this one, is focused on the technical…
The day we’ve all been waiting for is here. Windows 11 is finally available. Windows 11 succeeds Windows 10 and what Microsoft called ‘the last Windows you’ll ever need’. Okay, maybe we haven’t all been waiting for it. If you use a Mac you might not even know what a Windows is and why people are making such a big fuss about it. And some people are making a real big fuss about it. https://twitter.com/MicrosoftUAE/status/1445072333392207878 Congratulations! It’s a… Windows 11 Starting today, Windows 11 began rolling out to all supported devices. Like when Windows 10 rolled out, if you have…
Most of the time Apple’s AirTags can be a lifesaver. You’re late and lost your keys somewhere in your house? If you’ve got an AirTag attached you’ll find them in no time. They also have a cool feature that, if found out in the wild, can be scanned to show its owner’s info. But a recently discovered vulnerability allows would-be attackers to use that feature to redirect people who scan the tag to a website of their choosing. How it’s supposed to work: Once you’ve lost an AirTag, say in another country or someplace you can’t easily get to, you’re…
On Monday, we reported that Apple users were facing a rather inconvenient problem. Some users were reporting a problem when trying to unlock their iPhone 13 with the new ‘unlock with Apple watch’ feature that comes with iOS 15. The bug is particularly inconvenient if you’re in public and need to unlock your phone and you’re (hopefully) wearing a face mask. You’d have to input your passcode and hope no one was looking over your shoulder. The company acknowledged the problem and said it was working on a fix and would include it in “an upcoming software update”. But until…
Chinese tech giant Xiaomi introduced the latest addition to their wireless earbuds range yesterday. The True Wireless Headphones 3 Pro is the latest AirPods clone to hit the market and are the direct successor to the — yep you guessed it — True Wireless Headphones 2 Pro. It seems like Xiaomi is upping production of their personal audio accessories lately. Not so long ago, in May the company launched the Flipbuds Pro, which was its first set of buds with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC). It used a 3-mic system and offered up to 40dB of noise reduction. Xiaomi has carried…
For those of us that grew up with and around technology in general, computers specifically, the concepts of folder structure and a file shouldn’t sound too foreign. But they’re some of the things that are easy to take for granted. At the risk of sounding like the neighbourhood old man that tells you to get off his grass, much of today’s youth has grown up with smartphones and operating systems that simplify that side of using a computer. When they need a file, they just search for it. A folder, inside another folder If you’re either too young to know…
Privacy and security-focused software company Brave Software has entered the video conferencing realm with a privacy-conscious video chat feature built directly into their own browser, called Brave Talk. Users of the Brave browser can initiate a video call directly in the browser by clicking on the camera icon or by going to talk.brave.com. Calls need to be started within the Brave browser, but once started can include participants using any browser. The feature is made possible using the open-source ‘Jitsi as a Service’ platform and so features many of the same privacy features as Jitsi Meet. Because you can use…
