Clubhouse (the app) has been an absolute sensation over the past few months, garnering a significant audience on its own platform and inspiring lookalike audio platforms built by tech giants like Facebook, Instagram, and even Discord. But the original audio-only social media platform has, unfortunately, been exclusive to iOS. Until now.
Android enters the Clubhouse
Yes, the ever-popular audio chat app is making its Android debut. It’s not rolling out to the masses just yet, so don’t get too excited, but Clubhouse says that “a handful of friendly testers” are currently playing around with a “rough beta version” of the Android app.
After gaining such a significant user base and proving itself as a popular platform, Clubhouse managed to secure a second round of funding that it announced would be spent on developing the Android app. It began working on it in January.
It’s about time. Clubhouse has proven itself as the hot platform right now, and everyone else is looking to get in on that action, particularly while the Android market remains untapped. There’s a high chance that a significant portion of the potential Android audience has been snatched up by Twitter’s or Telegram’s alternatives that have been available on their devices for a while now. In the age of instant gratification, it’s hard to wait a while for something when there are always three or four bootlegs begging for your attention just around the corner.
Then again, perhaps the allure and polish of the Clubhouse experience in its native space might be enough to draw them back again. There’s no date for a full release just yet, but with the beta channel already being integrated into mainstream Clubhouse on iOS, we don’t expect it to be long before we see it in the Play Store.
