We are often told that there are no stupid questions. But that’s a lie. There are stupid questions, and they all live in the same place: Yahoo Answers. This is a place where anyone can ask whatever question they like and some random on the internet will provide an answer.
Mocking Yahoo Answers users has been a fun time for many over the last few years, but it’s about to come to an end. Yahoo Answers is closing its doors for good, as confirmed by the company this morning. The site will continue to take questions up until 20 April, after which the site will be “read only” until 4 May when it will be shut down indefinitely. It didn’t even make the cut for Yahoo’s new subscription service.
If you’re somewhat of a Yahoo Answers patron (if you are, get help), you’ll have until 30 June to download whatever content you want from the site. If that sounds like something you would do then, seriously, get help immediately. That is not a healthy desire. You need to evaluate your decisions.
RIP Yahoo Answers
Yahoo sent out a note to all currently active members of the site explaining why it was shutting it down, stating, “While Yahoo Answers was once a key part of Yahoo’s products and services, it has become less popular over the years as the needs of our members have changed. To that end, we have decided to shift our resources away from Yahoo Answers to focus on products that better serve our members and deliver on Yahoo’s promise of providing premium trusted content.”
Let’s just take a second to remember some of the best questions to come out of Yahoo Answers, brought to you by the wonderfully hilarious podcast My Brother, My Brother and Me:
- How much beer is a dog supposed to drink?
- How long should I sit on the Loo to chase these Tuesday blues away?
- Shooting a Ghost, do u think it could work?
- Can spiders have fun?
