It’s seldom that you get to see a marriage made in heavy within the gaming industry. Yet one such union has just been announced and it’s a real doozy. IO Interactive, the team behind the insanely popular Hitman franchise, has confirmed that it’s next project is a James Bond game. A very brief teaser was revealed for the game that basically just confirmed that it was happening and beyond that… we don’t really know all that much else.
James Bond is the perfect franchise for IO Interactive. The developers are no stranger to games that feature suave, easily cosplay-able badass characters rocking up in an environment and getting their dirty assassin business (or in the case of James Bond, spy business) done. Hitman has historically played far slower than the action often seen in the Bond and previous Bond games but one has to imagine that the team will be up to the challenge. The real question is… who’ll be playing James Bond?
Bond… Xbond. And PlayStation, probably
While the details on “Project 007” are still vague, we do know that it’ll probably be launching on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. IO Interactive’s CEO Hakan Abrak describe the endeavour as the “most ambitious game in the history of our studio.” IO is on the verge of releasing the third and final entry in the recent Hitman trilogy as Hitman 3 launches in January 2021.
Now the real question is whether or not this game will release before or after the new Bond film, No Time To Die. Look, it’ll definitely come out way later than the movie but given how many delays Daniel Craig’s swansong Bond has been hit with, it’s fun to imagine a future where IO beats MGM Productions to the punch.
