It’s turning into a decent week for Nokia fans. We’ve already taken a look at the Nokia X71 (not a spy-plane) and now we’ve got local details for the Nokia 9 PureView. Specifically its availability and how much it’s going to cost. And it’s surprisingly inexpensive.
Nokia’s weird five-camera handset, first seen at this year’s MWC, launched today exclusive to Vodacom and its partners. Buyers will be able to pick up the smartphone from R699 per month on contract though the big red mobile service provider. If you’re not the type to be tied down, you’ll also be able to pick it up for R11,850 on pre-paid. That’s a Vodacom-exclusive price, as well. The recommended retail for the Nokia 9 PureView is R13,000… which is still pretty competitive for a flagship.
The Nokia 9 PureView rocks a 6in P-OLED display, a Snapdragon 845 processor, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. Like most Nokia devices, it’s part of the Android One program and launches with stock Android 9.0 as standard. But the real reason to look into this one is the camera. Or rather, cameras. The PureView has five 12MP, f/1.8 28mm lenses — two colour and three monochrome. Up front, there’s a 20MP selfie cam and the whole handset is rated IP67 so it can swim, technically. All of which should make for some interesting beach photography on a (relative) budget.
