The iPhone Air, released last year, didn’t exactly set the world alight. That hasn’t stopped the Fruit Company from trying again. The device was notably absent from Apple’s big iPhone unveiling this year — giving the iPhone Duo more room to breathe. That’s all according to plan, with Apple reportedly considering it for early next year.
A breath of stale Air

Once upon a time, Q1-2 was when Apple debuted its budget models. That’s still technically true, if the rumours about an early iPhone 18 and 18e launch are true. They’re not what most would call budget, but compared to the rest of the lineup… To beef up the early 2027 offerings, the Air 2 may make an appearance.
While the final launch date may still be up in the air, Weibo tipster Digital Chat Station has hinted at the specs it’s packing. It’ll supposedly sport a 6.55in flat OLED display, 1.5K resolution, and a 120Hz refresh rate. That’s not far off from the device’s current iteration, which offers 3,000 nits of brightness.

Everyone can agree that what they’d like in a second-generation Air is a thinner body… somehow. Failing that, we wouldn’t mind smaller, more capable bits inside. Apple’s gone for a bit of both, with the tipster suggesting the Air 2 would rock a 5.2mm thin body, making it 0.4mm smaller than the first generation. It’s also getting the 2nm A20 series chipset, though that was to be expected. A larger battery is also in the pipeline.
That’s not hard to do, considering the 3,149mAh battery housed in the iPhone Air. An exact size is still unknown, though older rumours point to around 3,500mAh or higher. Also due is a dual-rear camera lineup, with a 48MP wide and ultrawide sensor. The C2 modem and N2 chip are also included.
