Over the weekend, it came out that Apple’s new iPhone Duo folding smartphone isn’t faring well in some cases. Reported instances haven’t been quantified, but it doesn’t appear widespread enough to cause major issues for the tech company. Even so, Apple was expected to make a statement at some point.
And it has. The company addressed the issue via a statement to MacRumours. Apple first pointed out how well things were going before acknowledging that something is going on with (some) of its folding screens. The company also offers a rather obvious solution for those affected.
Another iPhone Duo
The company’s statement runs as follows: “The response to iPhone Duo from early users has been incredibly positive, and we are seeing exciting things from developers who are rapidly updating their apps to take advantage of its unique form factor. We are aware of an issue impacting the inner display on a small number of iPhone Duo units. If users experience issues with their iPhone Duo display, they should contact AppleCare for a replacement.”
The company also pointed out that purchases from a carrier (MTN, Vodacom, and others in South Africa) should still contact Apple directly. Since there’s no official ‘Apple’ presence, authorised retailers and repair outlets would be the place to go. The iStore and Core Group are the folks to approach first.
Apple’s response suggests that the iPhone Duo isn’t at risk of a recall at any point. It’s worth remembering that Samsung’s first Fold also experienced display issues at launch. That initial speed bump hasn’t done much to blunt the form factor’s popularity, despite its current pricing. Apple’s Duo is very likely to head in that same direction with this and successive releases.
