Apple today unleashed its first-ever foldable, the iPhone Duo, and charges up to R77,000 for the privilege. Somehow, in amongst those thousands of Rands, the Duo never quite managed to squeeze in Face ID. Instead, Apple got the early adopters of the first-generation foldable to switch back to Touch ID for the time being.
iPhone Duo 2 in the stew
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the Fruit Company is already working on a second-gen iPhone Duo. It’ll aim to fix the gripes the first model introduced, like the lack of Face ID. Gurman said that Apple was “actively working” on that new model already, which would introduce under-display Face ID and… not much else.
At least, not yet. Apple’s got plenty of room to improve. Whether we’ll see many upgrades in a second-gen device is doubtful. Not when there’s potential for eighteen more of the things in the same number of years. Apple will certainly have to add more than just Face ID to sway buyers, however.

Also on the potential list of upgrades is an Action Button, which first launched alongside the iPhone 15 Pro line. This is separate from the Camera Control button we’ve seen added in recent years, which the Duo sports on its lower-left side. Regardless, a physical customisable button would be welcome… if they can find the space.
Gurman didn’t go into detail about when the iPhone Duo 2 might emerge, but we wouldn’t be surprised at a yearly release. Now that Apple has bumped the base iPhone from its September announcements, we could see the annual iPhone Duo slotting in nicely. It turned out well enough this year for the Fruit Company, anyway.
