Told you. Apple didn’t just open pre-orders for its upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max over the weekend. South Africa’s iStore also began accepting payments for the Fruit Company’s latest line-up of Apple Watches, including the Watch Ultra 4 and Watch Series 12. The bit you’re here for is the Watch Ultra 4’s R17,800 price.

If your first reaction was disgust, we’d advise against looking at the Watch Ultra 4 with a Milanese Loop attached. That’ll run you an extra R2,200 on top of the starting price, landing firmly in R20,000 territory. Only you can determine whether the allure of a smooth woven metal strap inspired by 19th-century Milan is worth it. Tip: it isn’t.
Then there’s the Apple Watch Series 12, priced at R8,800. That’s the lowest you’ll pay for Apple’s latest ‘standard’ wearable. This one, though, is a tad more customisable if you’ve got money to burn. Case colours won’t affect the final tally, but upgrading to the GPS + Cellular model adds another R2,200 to the price. Opting for the larger 46mm case ups the total by another R1,200. The Milanese Loop model is similarly bonkers, priced at R16,600.

It’s no smartwatch, but Apple also unveiled the AirPods 5 last week, which are also up for pre-order. We were pleasantly surprised to see the R2,600 price, though the wireless charging case bumps that up to R3,000.
All the devices, like the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max, are set to release on Friday, 18 September. The iStore has no qualms about taking your money now, though, if you want to be among the first sporting some new Apple gear. All that’s left now is the new iPhone Duo, Apple’s first foldable, which opens pre-orders on 16 October.
