Honor has just launched its Magic V6 for South Africa, but the Magic 9 is also supposed to be on the way. By September this year, according to Honor itself. According to leaker Digital Chat Station, the new device(s) will closely resemble last year’s Honor Magic 8.
Internally, and for the base model Magic 9, at any rate. A better-specced, but still unnamed, version will include a beefier processor than the stock phone, which will bring the Magic 8’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 back for another round.

You can blame the ongoing semiconductor ‘shortage’ for the reruns, as it happens. The basic Honor Magic 9 is listed as having a 6.36in display to go with that Snapdragon 8 chipset. It’ll also, supposedly, include a large battery. With the way things are going, it’ll be upwards of 7,000mAh.
The ‘better’ model will include a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro. That, with the 6.8in display, puts it in a similar category to the Honor Magic 8 Pro Stuff reviewed at the beginning of this year. It’ll represent a truer upgrade, certainly, over the Magic 9’s rumoured specs.
A third device, also with a 6.8in display, is also mentioned. It’ll include a “3nm Performance Chip”, which doesn’t appear to be Qualcomm-based. According to a Google translation, “[t]his can be understood as the smaller version, defined as a performance flagship.” It may be Honor’s equivalent of a ‘fan edition’ smartphone, which is what everyone has agreed to call the ‘Lite’ releases now.
Previous rumours about the devices have included talk of dual 200MP rear camera sensors, a periscope telephoto, a battery in excess of 8,000mAh, and a bunch of features you could accurately guess at for a flagship smartphone. Honor’s exact September unveiling isn’t known, but it’s got competition for your attention next month.
