Nearly eight months on from the launch of LG’s OLED evo W6, the company has announced that the ‘true wireless’ TV is headed to South Africa. The big thing then was the TV’s incredibly thin profile, and that’s still the sentiment here. According to LG, the TV is about as thick as thirteen bank cards stacked on top of one another.
Anything but the metric system, huh?

Now that the TV is coming to South Africa — we can simply divulge the impressive 9.95mm measurement. We’ve never found thinness to be much of a selling point for a TV as we favour looking at the screen, but you do you. If you’re mounting the thing, there’s no denying it’ll look damn good — especially without any wires sticking out at odd angles.
That, truly, is where LG’s W6 shines. Sure, the company’s OLED tech is typically ahead of the competition, but that’s almost a given. We’re far more eager to see what the ‘Zero Connect Box’ is truly made of. LG claims it’ll handle all your HDMI ports, decoders, game consoles, and soundbars and transmit it all without degradation. The idea is to put the box out of sight entirely — freeing up the wallpaper TV to do what it does best: look pretty.

That should be easy enough. LG rarely disappoints when it comes to OLED, and the W6 looks no different. The secnd generation RGB Tandem OLED panel uses LG’s ‘Hyper Radiant Color’ tech, while a new Alpha 11 AI Processor Gen3 sits inside. The accompanying NPU is apparently 5.6 times faster than the previous gen. Far more important are the 4K visuals, 120Hz refresh rate, and 0.1ms response time. AMD FreeSync Premium and Nvidia G-Sync are also supported.
Only two sizes for the OLED W6 are headed to South Africa — the 77in and 83in. Both are currently live on the LG Store, though with a ‘Get stock alert’ button attached. When stock does turn up, you can expect to shell out a hefty R100,000 and R150,000 respectively for LG’s latest flagships.
