Garmin’s recently launched CIRQA wearable band was released in response to Whoop, Fitbit, and others churning out similar devices. Apple could be next on the list of companies to create a faceless wearable, proving that history is a circle. A very, very small circle.
The American tech brand hasn’t said anything official, but Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman reckons a screen-free wearable may be on the way. According to Gurman, “The company is considering new devices with no displays, as well as different types of screens and various sizes.”
Blank Apple
Apple has spent the last few years chasing trends of one kind or another. Its AI implementation was late. The Vision Pro headset is an excellent product, but also tremendously expensive. The company is still expected to launch a foldable smartphone (at some point). A wearable sans screen isn’t out of the question for its engineers. It’s likely to be unlike anything we’ve seen up to this… point… wait.
Moving on, the still-rumoured device doesn’t have any specifics beyond ‘Apple is thinking about making one’. Odds are strong that the company’s Watch or Watch SE innards will be transplanted into a more minimalist band. Without one of the company’s excellent displays needing power, it may even run for longer than a couple of days on a charge.
The tracking sensors under the company’s umbrella are already excellent. It’ll just look a little different, is all. What we can’t see is Apple developing a multiplatform app with the same gusto as it makes its physical tech. The Watch already doesn’t fully play with Android unless you go third-party, meaning a faceless wearable would emphasise the iPhone or iPad to show you the information you’re tracking. That’ll limit popularity for folks who aren’t fond of iOS.
