Caviar is back with a bunch of new faces stuck to the back of a Galaxy Fold 8 smartphone. Instead of famous footballers (one of whom is better than the other), we’ve got the luxury company’s take on ‘Cinema Legends’. As long as you like mobster movies or Christopher Nolan, you should be just fine.
That’s because featured are Marlon Brando’s Godfather, Al Pacino’s Tony Montana, and Heath Ledger’s Joker. One of these things is not like the others, but they’re all bad guys in their way. Even if Ledger’s portrait looks a bit like he was yanked from Geoff Johns’ Three Jokers.

The company obviously knows which image will generate the most interest (and therefore the most cash). Both the Godfather and Scarface occupy Samsung’s Galaxy Fold 8 smartphone. To put Batman’s greatest foe into your pocket, you’ll need to shell out for the Galaxy Fold 8 Ultra. You’ll also have to hand over a prodigious amount of cash.
Whichever one you opt for, you’ll nab the redesigned case with Caviar’s usual fondness for 24-karat gold, jewelery enamel, and limited numbers. There will only be nineteen of each character made, a number the brand seems especially fond of. Eventually, some enterprising seller on Temu will copy the casings, but they won’t be gold-plated, will they?
Brando and Pacino start at $12,560 (around R208,000) for the 256GB version of Samsung’s newest folding phone. Opt for the 1TB model, and you’ll pay R220,000. If it’s Ledger’s face you’re after, expect to pay at least R215,500 ($12,990) for the 256GB Fold 8 Ultra. Want maximum storage? You’ll fork over almost R228,000.
Other than that, though? The phones are mechanically identical to what you can already hand Samsung between R51,000 and R61,000 for. Given how pricey the standard handsets are, Caviar’s take doesn’t seem quite so outlandish. It’s still bonkers, sure, but it’s less than it would be if each phone cost R25,000.
