After Tecno’s Pova 7 Pro passed through our doors, we’re eager to see what the Chinese brand has in store on that front. Just about anyone could’ve guessed that would be the Pova 8 and Pova 8 Pro, but now the future seems more certain. Both the Pova 8 and its Pro sibling have turned up early, all but confirming an imminent launch.
Pova and out

They may take their sweet time getting to South Africa, though. The Pova 7 family launched in July of last year, but only made its way to our shores in September. We’d bet that something similar will happen this time around, with a release likely taking place in June/July before taking a tour globally. We’d love to be wrong, especially considering the Pova 7’s decent R8,700-ish price. The Pova 7 Pro is a harder sell, even if it is a great phone.
The cheaper Tecno Pova 8 5G was the first device to appear early, in the back-end of April. It was initially listed in the Google Play Console, giving us a basic first look at the device. We also got a peek at some of the device’s specs, like the 1,080 x 2,344px resolution display, the 6GB of RAM, and the Dimensity 7100 chip.

It later turned up in the Geekbench database, sporting the same RAM and chipset figures. More intriguing was the certification from early April that seemingly confirmed the device would pack an impressive 7,750mAh battery. And that’s just the base model. We’d love to see what’s going on under the hood of the Pro.
Fortunately, we can. Unfortunately, it isn’t nearly as exciting as you’d expect. In fact, it’s even a tad disappointing. Also spotted by XpertPick, the Pova 8 Pro recently found itself on the TUV certification website, which reveals the device’s 6,340mAh-rated battery (which will likely be marketed as 6,500mAh, as XpertPick points out). The phone was also seen on the FCC database, revealing its 162mm x 77mm x 8mm dimensions, and not much else.
