Hisense is, in a sense, getting in on the smart glasses trend. The company has just launched its Smart Audio Glasses G11 in China, with no mention of whether they’ll travel to other places around the world. Given that they’d cost roughly R3,000 if bought here, it would be a pity if the G11 stayed at home.
Hisense of sound
That said, the G11 glasses aren’t really smart in the sense you’d get from, say, Meta’s Ray Ban collaboration. Hisense’s wearable tech focuses on the ‘audio’ part of the name, with six microphones doing the heavy lifting. They’re not alone, though.
The Smart Audio Glasses G11 may use a microphone sextet, provided by a company called Vifa, but it’s for a very specific reason. Hisense has stuffed a very compact LLM into the glasses’ bows. At a guess, we’d say the AI lives towards the back, where the plastic gets thicker. Otherwise, the G11 looks almost like a regular pair of glasses.
The AI performs live translation for wearers, and… that’s about all we can locate for now. But the microphone array also allows for voice recording, in case you need to keep your meetings in order. Noise reduction is a feature, but we’d have to test these on a windy beach to believe it. You know, just to be sure.
Hisense’s tech boasts an IP54 rating, wireless charging, and a battery runtime of between twelve and 47 hours, depending on what you’re using them for. So far, the Chinese brand isn’t making a massive noise about them. They’ve turned up on a Chinese online store, but not, as far as we can see, the company’s official website.
