First, it was sapphire; now the Huawei Watch Ultimate Design is getting a diamond edition, according to a teaser from the Chinese company on the country’s main social media platform. Whether South Africa will ever see the luxury version of Huawei’s smartwatch in person is doubtful, but it’s nice to know it’s out there.
The Diamond Edition of the Huawei Watch isn’t just an empty title. Diamonds are used in its construction, with at least four around the bezel and more on the wristband. As for who would don one for a night out, we’d have to guess visiting Saudi princes? Tenderpreneurs?
Ultimate Design upgrade
The wristwear’s full title is quite a mouthful. It’s called the Huawei Watch Ultimate Design Extraordinary Master Diamond Edition (HWUDEMDE, an acronym we’re never using again). Internally, it’s likely identical to the company’s Sapphire and Royal Edition wearables. In this case, it’s what’s on the outside that really counts.
Four diamonds appear at the quarter points of the face, with more included on the device’s strap. The chassis features a similar faceted design to the precious carbon it’s based on, while the face takes a similar design route for its visuals.
Pricing for this particular Ultimate Design watch should be available for the Chinese market later today, but we’d have to guess at international prices. The Royal Edition, which landed internationally in January this year, starts at R66,000. That’s probably a good starting point, but we reckon that even lab-created diamonds will push the costs higher than that. Ah, well…
