It’s been a while since Canon added anything new to its PowerShot family, but rumours suggest that the Japanese company has something cooking. Something small and easy to point. An update or successor to the Canon PowerShot V1 is reportedly in the works, according to the folks at CanonRumours. They would know, obviously.
PowerShot through the heart
The main new feature coming to the apparent snapper is an all-new sensor. The 1.4in sensor from the V1 is supposed to be going away and replaced by something smaller. But smaller may not mean worse, since it’s supposedly more advanced than its predecessor. It’ll also appear in a range of Canon’s smaller hardware.
The writers at CanonRumours reckon that the updated sensor will be “a 1″ BSI stacked sensor made by Canon,” but that’s guesswork on their part. The size downgrade would make sense for what Canon’s supposed to use it for.
Pricing for the rumoured camera or cameras isn’t known, but there’s speculation that a large sensor version will retail for between R13,200 and R16,500. As for when we might see a smaller PowerShot launch, that’s been put some time after August this year. Any announcement will likely come after Canon reveals its also-rumoured EOS R7 Mark II.
