Now that Spotify technically offers lossless streaming, the platform has turned to new methods to attract paying customers (and to keep the current ones engaged). It’s doing so with the help of ‘Smart Reorder‘, a new setting that’ll intelligently adjust your playlist’s tracks according to their beats per minute (BPM) and key.
Lowkey, this beat slaps
When Spotify first dropped off X, the AI DJ at our doorsteps, this was kind of what we were hoping for. Hell, even the streamer’s new mixing tools were a bit of a letdown for newbies. Letting something a little smarter take over the job is a pretty great idea, and one that’ll help their playlists flow that much more smoothly than ever before.
To use the feature, hit ‘Mix’ on one of your playlists, and then tap ‘Edit’ to find the ‘Smart Reorder’ button. It’ll automatically sort the playlist by BPM and key. Hitting the Mix button will set everything back to normal when you’ve reached the Radiohead bit of the road trip.
Spotify reckons the feature is available to Premium customers via the mobile app “now”, though Stuff’s own Android devices weren’t able to access the new ‘Mix’ button the streamer debuted in beta form last August. The company may have simply opted for a gradual rollout, meaning the change will be along shortly. Or not…
