Someone needs to have a word with the marketers at Honor. The new Honor Magic 8 Pro Air has at least one too many words in its title, but at least it’s in good company. (Looking at you, Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max.)
Getting some Pro Air
The Chinese handset was revealed in China, and it’s the latest in a series of slim phones from global brands. The difference? Honor seems to have gone harder on the specs than its competitors have, with heftier camera hardware being the main drawcard.
Despite only being scheduled for a full reveal on 19 January, the Honor Magic 8 Pro Air’s specs are largely known already. The slim smartphone measures 6.1mm (0.24in) thick, only a shade thicker than Apple’s iPhone Air. The camera bump remains, and Honor’s sticking with three camera sensors for this handset. They’re not dinky, either. A 50MP 1/1.3in main and a 64MP periscope telephoto with 3.2x optical zoom are confirmed, with the third likely to be a 50MP ultra-wide.
By comparison, Apple’s iPhone Air scaled back to just a single rear image sensor, while Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge sports only two.
A 6.31in AMOLED display, likely with a 2,640 x 1,216 resolution, a MediaTek Dimensity 9500, and a 5,500mAh battery with 80W wired charging are all expected or confirmed specs, with the final details turning up at the beginning of next week. How Honor intends to cram all of this in its 6mm Magic 8 Pro Air and avoid it blowing up or melting down should be interesting to see.
