Honor’s Magic 8 smartphone series is a given. Not only are there rumours concerning its specs, but the company released a Magic 7 range last year. Those don’t just stop, unless the company disappears from the landscape altogether. But what if there was a surprise coming?
That surprise could well be an Honor Magic 8 Mini, assuming that’s what it ends up being called. Rumours from Chinese social media platform Weibo offer some insight into the still-unofficial smartphone, but it doesn’t sound especially ‘mini’ to us.
Honor Magic 8 – Mini or Lite?
According to a leak from Digital Chat Station, the handset will be a skinny, compact smartphone. Whether the expected 6.31in LPTO display will justify a ‘Mini’ appellation remains to be seen. Previous rumours about the phone have suggested a MediaTek Dimensity 9500 chip at its heart, something that appears confirmed in this latest leak.
A 5,500mAh battery is expected, which would be an achievement in a smartphone around five to six millimetres thick. Camera details suggest a 200MP main sensor, though a 50MP main camera could be substituted before anything lands at retail. The Magic 8 Mini information seen thus far comes via a pre-production sample of the phone, but the expected telephoto secondary camera sensor doesn’t seem to be at risk.
There are few other details about the phone’s existence. There’s no launch date or pricing, which makes sense since Honor has yet to make the rest of the lineup official. We’ve also got doubts about whether Honor will actually use the ‘Mini’ suffix. It never has before, opting to tag its less capable handset with the ‘Lite’ brush. But then, it hasn’t attempted to create “the industry’s first ultra-thin small-screen flagship” before either.
