We can’t be certain that the arrival of South Africa’s first-ever 10Gbps home fibre line will eradicate all your online issues, but it might lessen the number of goals your mate lets in during a game of Rocket League. If it does, you’ll have Octotel to thank.
Octotel leading the gigabit charge in SA
Theoretically, and with ideal conditions, users should be able to download files at a blistering pace — breezing through the 96GB Black Ops 7 download on PS5 in roughly one minute and 37 seconds. We imagine there will be some degradation once installed in a customer’s home, though likely negligible enough for many not to care.
Octotel will be the first to launch multi-gigabit fibre speeds to the home in South Africa, with plans for the products to become available from 28 November 2025, right around Black Friday. In addition to the 10Gbps/5Gbps (download/upload) line, Octel will also offer 2.5Gbps and 5Gbps symmetrical lines.

Octotel says that the packages on offer — which were determined during a trial phase involving South African ISPs (internet service providers) — may eventually be expanded to even higher speeds as it receives feedback from the ISPs. Fingers crossed that means expansion to other provinces, too.
Afrihost, Atomic Access, Mweb, Webafrica, and Vanilla Internet were among the ISPs included in the gigabit-fibre trial, although Octotel believes that Cool Ideas, RSAWeb, and Vox Telecoms will get their act together to participate in the coming launch later this month. Those in Cape Town CBD, Blouberg, Claremont, Newlands, Sea Point, Green Point, Bantry Bay, and Wynberg can get their hands on the products at launch. Pricing, unfortunately, is still to be determined at the time of writing.
