Huawei is nothing if not regular. The company has announced the official reveal date for its new Mate X7 and Mate 80 series handsets via China’s Weibo social media platform. The 25 November unveiling is for the Chinese market, of course, but that doesn’t mean the announcement is irrelevant.
It’ll be almost exactly a year since the company first detailed its Mate 70 devices, but we’ll be looking at all-new tech. You can tell because the model number is higher. The Mate 80 will likely be the star of the show, but Huawei’s new Mate X7 foldable is also taking the stage.
Mention the Mate X7
The reveal isn’t set to be much of a reveal, given that Huawei has already spilled most of its Mate 80 beans. Much of the data for available models (the Mate 80, 80 Pro, 80 Pro Max, and the Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design), down to the available colourways, has been shared already.
The Mate 80 will feature 12GB/256GB, 12GB/512GB, and 16GB/512GB RAM and storage options, while the Mate 80 Pro adds an extra 16GB/1TB model. All of these will appear in Huawei’s Dawn Gold, Obsidian Black, Snowy White, and Spruce Green shades. Three rear cameras, including a periscope telephoto, appear in these units
The Mate 80 Pro Max adds a fourth camera sensor and confines itself to 16GB/512GB and 16GB/1TB models, launching in Polar Night Black, Polar Silver, Polar Day Gold, and Aurora Blue. Huawei’s Ultimate Design model sports 20GB of RAM across its 512GB and 1TB models, a novel design compared to the rest of the lineup, and Dark Black, Pure White, and Hibiscus hues.
The Mate X7 has less available information, but since the company hasn’t opted to skip directly to the Mate X8, we’d take specification details with a pinch of salt. Improved cameras over the X6, 20GB of RAM, and one of Huawei’s Kirin 9030 processors are probably a safe bet for next week’s announcement. considering how many of these details also appear ready for the Mate 80 series. Still, we’ll check out what the Chinese company has to say at its event next week.
