If you thought you’d seen the last word in LG’s TVs, you obviously had no idea that the South Korean brand is launching a 136in Magnit. That’s the branding for its massive new microLED TV, which is scheduled for launch in LG’s home country before heading elsewhere.
The LG Magnit Active Micro LED TV, to give it its full title, will blow colossal holes in your savings, investments, and bitcoin holdings, assuming you can convince the company to bring it to South Africa. For enough money, though, most companies will do just about anything.
Gods and punks
LG’s newest monster has just launched in South Korea, with North America next in the 3m x 1.7m 4K TV’s sights. LG boasts of a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio from the massive Active Matrix panel, explaining that the screen tech “provides individual pixel-level control for remarkably refined detail and ultra-high-definition picture quality.”
Inside are LG’s α9 AI Processor (6th gen), a 100W 4.2 speaker system, and a 144Hz refresh rate. The company reckons its latest processor “reduces noise, sharpens clarity and recognizes faces, objects, text and backgrounds”, making the Magnit one of the most advanced screens the screen specialist has ever put out.
If you’re wondering what one of these would cost, beyond the room you’d have to build to contain it, so are we. LG hasn’t said what the 136in Magnit microLED will cost, advising prospective buyers to contact them for a “personalized consultation.” That heavily suggests that most of the planet won’t ever afford one. Ah, well. At least it’s out there and someone’s enjoying it.
