Only days after the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) imposed minor petrol price increases while diesel drivers were left jumping for joy in October, the latest round of predictions from the Central Energy Fund (CEF) reckon November’s official adjustments won’t be quite as divisive, with decreases across the board.

Good news, everyone!

We should remind readers that the CEF’s figures (found below) aren’t final and are subject to change. The CEF, in conjunction with the DMRE, tracks those economic factors that influence the price of fuel locally, offering daily insights into how the country’s fuel prices are faring, and allowing residents to properly plan ahead.

This involves tracking the average Rand/US Dollar exchange rate and price of oil internationally throughout any given month. This means that the CEF’s daily insights closely align with the DMRE’s adjustments near month’s end, as it looks at the same data, courtesy of the CEF. We’ll continue to update readers throughout the month.

Considering the CEF’s daily insights, there’s still plenty of time for South Africa’s fuel fortunes to change — for good or worse. Still, with these early predictions showing such a decrease in petrol prices, it seems unlikely that the figures will change so drastically by the time November rolls around. Diesel prices, on the other hand…

Here’s hoping that doesn’t happen, and that the CEF’s predictions continue to show larger fuel price decreases across the board. We’ll have to wait until the first Wednesday of the new month — 5 November 2025 — to find out. That’s typically when the DMRE adjusts fuel prices, with an announcement taking place a day or two before.
