And here we thought Samsung had dropped the ‘Lite’ suffix from its premium range for good. The South Korean company has just announced its newest affordable(ish) S-series tablet, the Galaxy Tab S10 Lite. Aimed primarily at students and sprinkled with the company’s latest AI promises, the S10 Lite is set to have an international price tag of just over R6,000 ($350).
It won’t be quite as attractively priced here at home, but it will make it to our shores in September. When it does, Samsung hopes that the 10.9in tablet’s AI smarts will convince you to stick one… wherever it is you like to stick your tech.
Charge of the Tab S10 Lite brigade
The Tab S10 Lite’s 600-nit 10.9in display features a high-resolution (2,112 x 1,320) TFT panel capable of refreshing at 90Hz. Inside is an Exynos 1380 chipset, where the AI smarts are kept, and either 6GB/128GB or 8GB/256GB system memory/storage combinations. An 8,000mAh battery keeps the silicon-and-wire package ticking along.
The cameras in the Galaxy Tab S10 Lite are negligible, with just 8MP in the rear and 6MP in the front, but the device comes standard with one of Samsung’s S Pen peripherals. It’s this, along with features like Handwriting Assist and Math Solver, that is supposed to draw in folks looking for a bigger portable screen at a more palatable price.
Google’s Circle to Search AI function, which Samsung says enables “intuitive discovery and translation from anywhere on the screen” is the only major AI feature touted, but buyers who also opt for the keyboard cover get “quick access to AI assistance to brainstorm ideas or get help mid-task, allowing users to tap into a smart and creative partner” via a Galaxy AI Key on the keyboard. How this will work isn’t explained. It’s probably up to you to convince the embedded AI to do something intelligent.
The international launch for the Galaxy Tab S10 Lite is set for 4 September, but South African buyers can expect a slight delay. The tablet arrives in SA on 19 September, with local pricing to be revealed closer to launch.
