Local PC modder and gaming content creator Lelani “Locked Elf” Orffer has launched a new initiative this Women’s Month called Ctrl+HER, aimed at providing more women in South Africa with hands-on experience in building a gaming PC.
The project is set to debut at Comic Con Africa 2025 in partnership with Asus Republic of Gamers (ROG).
Orffer, who has been building and modifying PCs since the age of eleven, says she noticed that while many of her female friends enjoy gaming and content creation, few have had the opportunity to work directly with the hardware involved. Ctrl+HER seeks to bridge this gap by offering hands-on experience in PC assembly.
Ctrl+HER + short video = free gaming PC
The campaign invites women from across the country to submit a short video explaining why they want to learn how to build a PC. From these submissions, two finalists will be selected to attend Comic Con Africa, with full weekend event passes included.
At the Asus ROG stand, the finalists will assemble complete PC gaming rigs under Orffer’s mentorship. As a further incentive, one of the participants will be able to take their newly built PC home.
Ctrl+HER aims to celebrate women in tech and reduce barriers to entry in the gaming and PC hardware space. By combining competition, mentorship, and real-world skills development, the initiative hopes to inspire more women to explore technology careers or hobbies. Sounds like a win-win.
For more information about the campaign and how to enter, visit the official announcement video on Instagram here. Better not delay, hopeful entrants only have eight (8) days left to enter.
