Smartphone contracts are rarely ever simple, and Vodacom knows it. In response, the network operator has announced a revamped suite of Red Core contracts, supposedly reflecting Vodacom’s desire to put “customers first by offering extra value, increased flexibility, and greater ease”.
Vodacom’s Red is on the up and up
Vodacom reckons it has overhauled the rewards, too, beyond regular airtime and mobile data purchases. The renovation now consists of four “simplified” plans, all of which include up to R20,000 in funeral cover, as well as two months’ worth of theft cover — which also applies to those who lose their device. Vodacom points out that theft cover only applies to “device deals” acquired from the operator itself.
“…We have streamlined our RED Core offering – making it easier to choose, easier to understand, and easier to afford. In doing so, we are ensuring that there is a plan for everyone on Mzansi’s Preferred 5G network,” said Rashid Tar-Mahomed, managing executive of products and services at Vodacom South Africa.
It’s not all doom and gloom and lost phones. Signing up for any Red Core contract will also score you a two-year subscription to Viu, as well as a three-month subscription to Spotify (bundled with 500MB data per month). Or if you don’t mind inviting the wrath of Christopher Nolan or Martin Scorsese inside, there’s also a 1-year Prime Video Mobile subscription bundled in. You’ll have to supply your own mobile data on this one.
