If you’re still not satisfied with the price of fuel in South Africa (and rightly so), despite the recent bout of fuel price decreases, you’ll want to hear this. According to early predictions from the Central Energy Fund (CEF), motorists may have yet another fuel price cut to look forward to by the time June rolls around.

While that’s still a couple of weeks away, the CEF’s early predictions certainly are promising. Whether your fuel-buying ambitions involve diesel, petrol, or paraffin, there’s a good chance you’ll be paying less at the pumps than you did in May. That’s assuming the country doesn’t fall into complete disrepair by then. Keep the faith, folks.
It should be noted that the CEF’s figures (below) are not final and are subject to change. The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) is officially responsible for adjusting the price of fuel every month, based on several economic factors. The CEF, a state-owned energy company, is responsible for tracking these factors daily and provide valuable insight into the state of South Africa’s fuel industry.

The most important factors influencing the price of fuel locally are the average Rand/US Dollar exchange rate throughout any given month, as well as the average price of oil in that same period. A stronger Rand and cheaper oil prices are good news for South Africa’s fuel price. Let’s hope it stays that way, yeah? We’ll continue to update you throughout May. Now, without further ado:
Here are the petrol and diesel price predictions (so far) for June 2025:
- Petrol 93: decrease of 47 cents per litre (R0.47)
- Petrol 95: decrease of 46 cents per litre (R0.46)
- Diesel 0.05%: decrease of 81 cents per litre (R0.81)
- Diesel 0.005%: decrease of 82 cents per litre (R0.82)
- Illuminating Paraffin: decrease of 80 cents per litre (R0.80)
