It’s official. The price of petrol is going down for the month of September. Of course, we knew that already. The question was by how much.
That question has an answer. South Africa’s department of Mineral Resources and Energy has published the official petrol price drop taking effect from 7 September. For a change, you don’t need to scramble to fill your tank tomorrow. You can scramble to fill it on Wednesday instead.
Less pricy Petrol
South Africa’s fuel price drop isn’t as splendid as we were hoping it would be, but it’s still in the range of a couple of bucks per litre. Almost exactly, in fact. It’ll cost you R2.04 less at the pump, whether you’re filling up with 93 or 95 octane.
0.05% diesel falls by 56c/litre, while 0.005% diesel drops by 46c/litre. That’s not quite as pleasing a number as the petrol price, but it has one thing going for it. The overall diesel price is smaller.
The wholesale price of illuminating paraffin falls by 82c/litre, the national retail price dips by R1.09/litre, and the maximum price of LP gas (per kilogram) also falls. By R1.65, which is a number to warm the heart, if not the home.
