Apple likes to push its smartphone camera capabilities, showing off how good your shots can be (when it forms part of a professional rig). ShiftCam’s upcoming ProRig is designed to give the average user similar capabilities from their iPhone, especially the iPhone 18 Pro. The 18 Pro Max can play too, if it wants to.
Essentially a modular aluminium frame that integrates an iPhone, the ProRig is designed to suit whatever video setup you prefer. There are options for greater stability while filming handheld, tripod setups, slots for microphones, and a slider for adding more capable lenses over the iPhone’s sensors. It’s… quite impressive.

For a camera case, at any rate. That’s not unexpected, since Apple is working directly with ShiftCam on the design of the frame. And it’s not just the iPhone 18 Pro being given preference. According to the company, the ProRig will “seamlessly integrate with iPhone Pro.” That means (or should mean) that every generation of Pro iPhones, including all previous Pro Max versions, should be compatible.
The exact specifics of the ProRig aren’t available, but it’ll work with everything that ShiftCam, noted for its work on camera peripherals, has built to date. The company’s website offers a few looks at the possibilities, from basic handheld vlog recording setups, to gimbal-specific configurations, to something that will shoot a full commercial. The ProRig will just form a part of that, of course. The additional mics, lenses, gimbals, and tripods will have to come from the buyer’s gear stash.
Despite being partnered with Apple over the ProRig’s development, ShiftCam will launch this new peripheral via Kickstarter. If you absolutely must include one in your camera arsenal, backing will open on 23 October. That’s also when the company will reveal how much it’ll cost to own one… and its various additional bits.
