Spar is out, and Woolworths is in. FNB announced that Private and RMB Private Bank customers could earn eBucks when shopping at Woolworths across South Africa starting today, 1 October. Woolworths joins the ever-growing (and sometimes shrinking) list of partners where clients can earn some of their monthly spend back.
“This new initiative brings relevant, everyday value into a broader Private offering designed to support clients across their banking, borrowing, investing, insurance and lifestyle needs. It also responds directly to how clients live, with a significant part of our clients already spending at Woolworths,” the bank said.
Another win for eBucks
It’s quite the deal, assuming you fall into the (quite) specific crowd that FNB is catering to. Depending on their banking package and eBucks rewards level, qualifying clients can earn up to 6,000 or 10,000 eBucks. That’s the equivalent of R600 or R1,000. Worthy purchases made at Woolworths Food, Woolworths Online, and Woolworths Dash are totalled up over the course of the month to determine the reward, the bank said.
How you pay matters enormously here, however. The bank makes it clear that only those ‘eligible’ purchases made with a qualifying virtual card will score clients eBucks. Using a physical card in participating stores is still accepted, of course, though the purchases will not net any eBucks. This, however, is not a major hassle.

It’s unclear which specific products will count as ‘eligible’ to the bank and the retailer. FNB mentions that eBucks customers will earn on their Woolworths “food, fashion, beauty and home purchases.” Woolworths has yet to be added to FNB’s list of eBucks partners online, although we expect that to change soon.
“The strength of eBucks lies in creating benefits that clients can genuinely use,” says Bathandwa Mbovane, head of reward at eBucks. “Woolworths adds meaningful everyday value to an already compelling proposition for FNB Private and RMB Private Bank clients, bringing more value across everyday spending categories while making their banking relationship even more rewarding.”
