While many AI companies are still scrambling to get their first take on AI hardware out the door, Plaud’s already at the AI-powered earbuds stage of the cycle. While the Plaud Note (and subsequent Plaud Note Pro) was pitched as a note-taking and minute-keeping tool, the Plaud One Explorer Edition earbuds pack a full-time assistant.

These may look like any other earbuds you could get from the store; they’re anything but. The buds themselves look slick enough, though the charging case looks a little too boxy for our tastes. Same goes for the off-white colour these have turned up in. Don’t worry. If Plaud sees these selling well, you might see a few more colour options down the line.
The buds should do exactly what you’d expect AI-powered earbuds to. A built-in 4G LTE eSIM help it take phone calls, and the buds themselves can record their calls for later evaluation. In day-to-day use, they’ll be able to capture and upload ongoing conversations, sounding more and more like a literal Black Mirror episode.

The results are pretty much what you’d expect from Plaud’s line of hardware. It’ll automatically transcribe what it’s heard into something more easily digestible, and then generate summaries or reports when needed. You can hook it up to your personal Gmail, Google, Slack, or Notion accounts if needed. Where the Plaud One differs from the rest is its ability to converse with its wearer, answering questions and taking instructions immediately.
The buds are currently up for pre-order, demanding a sacrifice of around R4,000 ($250). That’s before you take Plaud’s subscription into account. At the time of writing, these are only shipping to addresses in the US. If you’re determined enough, we’re sure you’ll be able to lay your hands on them eventually. You’ll have to wait ’til Autumn, when Plaud expects the devices to begin shipping.
