If Caviar’s recent limited-edition smartphone releases haven’t caught your attention, perhaps the company’s Odyssey-themed Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses will. As with the brand’s T-Rex, Cinema Legends, or football outings, these units are basically bog-standard on the inside. For once, it’s what’s on the outside that counts.
Odyssey in sight
Unusually, the two versions of the Ray-Ban smart glasses (the company doesn’t reference Meta anywhere) are low on ostentation. But it’s not absent. The glasses, “reimagined by Caviar through the story of Odysseus and the culture of ancient Greece”, do have precious metal accents, though.
In the case of the standard Odyssey glasses, that metal is 24-karat gold. There’s a silver version which, appropriately, swaps out the gold for 22-karat sterling silver. The accents for both are hand-crafted, which might explain why there are no more than 24 units of each on sale. That, and there are 24 books in Homer’s epic.
Whichever you choose (assuming you can afford a pair over the R13,500 undecorated version), they’ll also be hand-painted with black enamel. For the final bit of ‘I have more money than you’, they ship with a black crocodile leather case.
If you’re expecting to pay a hundred grand for these, you’d be… surprisingly correct. The gold version is somewhat cheaper, but that still totals R98,800 ($6,130). If you’re putting silver on your temples, expect to pay a shade over R110,000 ($6,840). Or you can spend that money on an actual trip to Greece. Your call.
