People want wider foldables, if the recent success of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8 is any indication. So much so that Samsung has reportedly upped the number of units in production from 2.8 million to a nice round 4 million. If that wasn’t enough, insiders who spoke to ETNews (via Android Central) claim that the South Korean outlet will focus on foldables in a big way next year. As many as five foldables are in the pipeline for 2027, it’s claimed.
Samsung’s gettin’ busy next year
Those would be the usual suspects: the Galaxy Z Fold9, bearing the new ‘wide’ look, the Z Fold9 Ultra, and the Z Flip9. That’s the route Samsung took this year, and you can bet it’ll do it again. One of the newcomers is expected to be another ‘wide’ foldable along the lines of the Z Fold9, though possibly incorporating the 21:9 aspect ratio when opened. Beyond that, Samsung may be looking to take another stab at the Galaxy Z TriFold, which launched in 2025.
Details about another wide foldable are still scarce. We only know that it’s at the “inception stage”. But it would make sense for Samsung to target a screen that’ll support 21:9 to make watching movies that much more comfortable. The 4:3 aspect ratio is certainly handy for reading books and doomscrolling, but it stops there.

Even before the rumours began to circulate, references to a “WideFoldModel” appeared in the One UI 9 test software. That would point to Samsung prepping the new hardware even before the success of the wider Z Fold8.
As for the Galaxy Z TriFold 2 (or whatever it ends up being called), we can only guess. The original never got a massive release, seeing as it was an experimental test for Samsung. If the company can iron out the kinks, we could see it in the hands of more people. Not many, if Samsung holds onto the same pricing we saw last time.
