It’s been more than 19 years since Steve Jobs blew the world’s mind with the reveal of the iPhone™. The Fruit Company has chased that high ever since, with it supposedly prepping for the upcoming 20th anniversary. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reckons a ‘glass-centric’ model is in the works, rather than anything with substance.

In other words, you’re going to get a new design with the same ol’ [insert A chipset here] upgrade that you’re currently used to. Maybe Apple throws us a bone and makes the battery a little stronger. Maybe. It’s unlikely, seeing how the design will be reserved for the next-next batch of iPhone Pro models — AKA, the iPhone 19 Pro.
The ‘glassy look’ that Gurman refers to will cover both the front and the rear of the device, and “will curve into the sides of the devices, with a metal band in the middle.” That metal band can’t be avoided. Apple apparently put a version with more glass to the test, but had trouble connecting the glass panels together. It was then scrapped.
The validity of the rumour was called into question earlier today when an analyst by the name of Edison Lee claimed that the all-glass iPhone was dead, citing supply chain issues. Gurman’s report directly refutes the claim, stating that “Apple’s product road map hasn’t changed,” likely meaning a September 2027 release is on the cards.
