South Africa is becoming more Chinese by the day. If it isn’t some new EV taking to the streets, then it’s a new appliance company coming to undercut the rest of the market. TCL is one of those, primarily focusing on television sets and budget phones — a couple of which have already passed through Stuff’s door. The company is obviously doing well for itself, having announced the launch of its first-ever physical store in the country.
Tender Carin’ Love for South Africa

The store will be located at the Cedar Square shopping centre, according to a fresh Instagram account. Other than a vague ‘coming soon’ teaser, there’s no telling when the store will open up to the public. When it does, the company plans to host a grand opening “lucky draw” as an excuse to give away a TV, air-con, and bar fridge.
We’ve reached out to TCL South Africa to learn more about the upcoming launch, but we had not heard back by the time of publication. In addition to the company’s extensive line-up of TVs and phones, the store will serve as a demo room to showcase the company’s new products, including a number of household appliances.
We’re talking fridges, aircons, washing machines, air purifiers, and even robot vacuums. And while the company has often championed larger — but still budget — TVs, especially in South Africa, it’s slowly creeping into the higher-end market. With the might of Sony behind it, it won’t be long before it’s competing with the big boys.
