Ereader company Boox has been on a roll lately, but its newest outing might be a little special. The company has released Tappy, a little remote control device for its readers. We’ve seen Kobo’s remote control, which is a fairly premium take, but Boox’s effort is a shade more impressive.
Perhaps ‘satisfying’ would be a better descriptor. The Tappy “wireless page turner” is based on a typewriter, with two keys that bring to mind the older, clacky tech. Based on the company’s images, you’ll want to keep pressing it, whether it’s to turn pages back or forward.
Boox club
That’s always a good thing in a remote control. Boox ships the roughly R500 thing with two additional caps, in case you wear the original pair out. It’s got an internal battery and recharges via USB-C. Tappy works with Boox hardware that supports Bluetooth and (more importantly) runs the company’s 4.2 firmware.
But if you need something to pair with ole Tappy, it might be worth waiting a little. The company has an announcement pending for its new Poke 7 ereader. These will launch on 21 May in the company’s native China. Hardware details are sparse, but Boox will only make us wait ten days before all of that becomes available.
The Poke 7 doesn’t deviate much from the ereader standard in terms of visual design, so we can expect the internals to be just as competent. What’s notable is the company getting a little flashier in terms of colour options. Many readers, across brands, stick to boring whites and blacks with little variation. The new colour, QuickSand, suggests the company’s after more… artistic readers with this release.
As with most of what Boox releases, you may be able to buy them locally. And, if they’re not in stock there, Amazon’s American store will be happy to ship most models directly to you.
