You may have already made friends with Samsung’s R2,500 Galaxy A07, but we bet you’ve yet to meet its prettier sister, the Galaxy A07 5G. That’s because it only just got its start in Myanmar, bringing with it several upgrades that’ll likely pull it out of the camp of ‘totally budget’ and dump it into the regular ‘budget’ market.
Big OS upgrades for the budget crowd
The Galaxy A07 5G is slightly chonkier than the Galaxy A06 5G, weighing in at 199g and measuring 8.2mm thick, while the IP54 rating fends off dust and water. Still, it holds onto the same basic design, leaving Samsung free to upgrade the display to a 120Hz-capable 6.7in PLS LCD (720×1600) and up to 800 nits of peak brightness.
To live up to the 5G claims, Samsung’s stuck with MediaTek’s Dimensity 6300 chipset that plied the A06 5G with its powers, with 4/6GB RAM flavours. It sucks to see a recycled chipset in any smartphone, but it does at least beat out the Helio G99 chip that Galaxy A07 (4G) owners were forced to contend with. You won’t find anything less than 128GB of storage here after Samsung axed the 46GB variant, but a 2TB microSD is also an option.

Battery life, too, has seen a bump, jumping from 5,000mAh to 6,000mAh, though it’s retained the same 25W wired charging support we saw on the 4G model. An 8MP shooter on the front handles the selfies, while a duo consisting of a 50MP main and a 2MP depth sensor delivers all your shots from the rear.
Samsung is defying tradition with the latest budget-beater, allowing the Galaxy A07 5G to reap six years’ worth of OS upgrades. That, coupled with the roughly R2,800 and R3,100 prices for the 4GB and 6GB models, respectively, will make this an easy buy for many. We reached out to Samsung South Africa to provide a potential local launch date and pricing, but had not heard back at the time of publication.
