Just Dance might be the last of the music-based games that flooded the scene back when the Xbox 360 was the king of the consoles (it wasn’t even close, Sony). Ubisoft‘s title has launched on plenty of platforms, but we wouldn’t have guessed that the newest place to play it would be an LG smart TV.
And yet, here we are. Just Dance Now will soon be playable on LG’s smart TVs, according to an announcement from the South Korean tech maker. There’s only one catch about accessing the dance/exercise game via the LG Gaming Portal when it launches in December this year — only the US and Europe have made the list so far.
Just Dance. Now, dammit!
The game’s introduction will function like many mobile games — probably because it actually is a mobile game. Players in available markets will get a set amount of free play time each day, but VIP Passes — which act like subscriptions — provide unlimited access to Just Dance Now for a small (or larger) sum. Passes are valid for 24 hours, three months, or twelve months.
Only, instead of holding a mobile phone while staring at a screen, players can also wave LG’s Magic Remote to mirror their on-screen avatars’ movements. There is a set of requirements beyond the geographical limits. LG TVs running webOS 22 or later will have access, and the game must survive the limited beta test on LG’s hardware first. During the beta, players will have access to three songs on their first day, and one song each day after that for the duration of the two-week test.
Once that happens, expect a broader rollout. If SA doesn’t make it onto the list, there’s always the option of whipping your phone around and hoping you don’t Just Dance it, Wii Remote style, into the nearest wall.
