Amazon is the latest company to have a set of augmented reality glasses in development, according to a report from The Information. Amazon’s glasses, known internally as Jayhawk, are intended for the company’s customers, with a separate project for its employees also in development.
This second set of glasses, codenamed Amelia, is specifically for delivery drivers working for Amazon. These glasses will (somehow) speed up deliveries. These could be ready as soon as the middle of 2026, claim the unnamed sources who spoke to The Information.
Don’t jaywalk, Jayhawk instead
The consumer-focused glasses will have something in common with Meta’s Ray-Ban articles, but more with the social media company’s upcoming Hypernova products. Jayhawk will feature internal microphones, cameras, speakers, and a colour display in one of the lenses, sources reckon. A late 2026 or early 2027 release is expected for these.
The internal set of glasses will be more utilitarian in design, since folks are wearing them for work. Since when has a uniform ever cared about its wearer’s comfort, after all? These will be somewhat bulkier — whether this is due to a larger battery or just because Amazon cares less about appearances isn’t certain — and will include fewer features. Amazon is targeting an initial shipment run for Amelia of 100,000 units.
Amazon and Meta aren’t the only contenders in this space. Apple’s Vision Pro is expected to be joined by something a touch more affordable, and even Samsung is reputed to have a set of augmented reality glasses in the works.
