Any South African drivers with around R4 million burning a hole in their pocket can now pick up the Corvette Stingray without venturing over to the brand’s Kentucky (formerly Michigan) headquarters. CVH Auto Group is bringing the vehicle, as well as the Corvette ZR6, into the country.
It’s not surprising that the Johannesburg-based CVH is responsible for this particular entry. The company also handles Masterati sales for South Africa, meaning you’ve got your choice of American or Italian sports cars when you amble into their showroom.
Drivers, buy your engines!
The announcement isn’t accompanied by much information about the vehicles themselves, probably because it isn’t required. 2L and 3L versions will be available, all of which are the original right-hand-drive versions.
The starting price for a Stingray will set prospective drivers back R3.7 million, but various trim options will push that price higher once you’ve started the paperwork. You might think that’s too much to pay for a mid-engine V8 with 369kW of power under the accelerator, but you’ve probably just never done 0 to 100km/h in 3.5 seconds in a naturally-aspirated V8 before.
Each vehicle sold will be ready for the track, with every model leaving the showroom with Corvette’s Z51 performance package as standard. The Stingray will be available in both convertible and coupe models, with the more powerful Corvette ZR6 also tempting drivers into risking their lives (and bank balances). The latter is available by special order only, so it should be especially desirable for a certain type of customer.
If you’re that sort of driver, and your bank manager isn’t shy about handing out deposits, you can “register your interest” at CVH’s website now.
