The wait is finally over. Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 have turned up locally, courtesy of retailer Nexus Hub. The console, which saw a detailed reveal during a special Nintendo Switch 2 Direct earlier this week, introduced refreshed hardware, a stellar line-up of games, and more accessories than you’ll ever need – all attached to a too-high $450 price tag and an even more infuriating $80 price for digital games.
Say goodbye to your rent
Nexus Hub offered a 30-minute warning of the pre-order go-live time to those customers who signed up for any news on the coming hardware. “Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders go live [at] 12 Midday at Nexus Hub. All Together, Anytime, Anywhere! Launching June 5th 2025,” it said.
Nexus Hub has confirmed local pricing of the Nintendo Switch 2, coming at R12,500, while the bundle featuring Mario Kart World will add an extra R1,000 on top of the price at R13,500. If you’re looking to enhance the experience with the new Switch 2 Pro Controller, expect to pay up to R2,300.
A set of Joy-Con 2 controllers? That’s another R2,300 right there – begging the question of why you wouldn’t just pick up the new and improved Pro controller at the same price. As for the games, expect to pay up to R2,000 for the bigger titles like Mario Kart, while others like Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition come in at R1,800. You can expect lower prices for physical games on Nintendo’s e-shop.
Nexus Hub also confirmed that the Switch 2 would have no issues crossing South Africa’s border in a timely fashion, arriving at customers’ doors on 5 June – the same as the rest of the world. To see the pricing for all the games, bundles, and controllers, check out Nexus Hub here.
