The AI hype is steadily wearing off, with even South Africa’s budget smartphone offerings running rampant with AI features once reserved for the biggest and best smartphones. Realme’s newcomer C75 is evidence of that, bringing with it a R6,000 price tag, decent battery specs, and of course, artificial intelligence.
“The realme c75 marks an important step forward in making the most advanced technology accessible to more young people. This smartphone embodies our commitment to bridging the technological divide and empowering more people with access to AI,” said Realme Country Manager Jace Chen.
Let’s be realme
Realme’s C75 managed to string together a decent-looking body on a shoestring budget, even including an IP69 rating to best protect against dust and water. But an attractive design that’ll be muted by a cover out of the box isn’t what we’re interested in. It’s what’s on the inside that counts. Aside from the 6.72in LCD display, capable of hitting 90Hz and 690 nits in ‘high brightness mode’.
It’s not exactly up to Christopher Nolan’s standards, but at this price, we’re sure customers will find a way to cope. The same goes for the 12nm Mediatek Helio G92 Max, which goes a long way to explain the C75’s budget position. We’ve yet to test its capabilities, but it’s safe to assume it’ll jump between WhatsApp and YouTube with Spotify playing in the background without too much hassle.

Realme finds redemption with a 5,828mAh battery and 45W wired charging, capping it all off with a 50MP main sensor (supposedly bolstered by AI functionality) and a less-than-adequate 8MP shooter on the front for selfies.
“Built for South Africa’s Spirit, Realme C75 will especially resonate with students and young professionals with a love for adventure. Whether they’re exploring the outdoors in the Drakensberg, hustling through their workday in Joburg, or capturing content for their socials, the Realme C75 is their ultimate sidekick,” Chen concluded.
While Realme reckons the phone has officially launched at R6,000, we’ve only managed to source the Realme C75 through Vodacom’s store on contract, available for R380/m. Whether the device will see a larger launch elsewhere remains to be seen.
