Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 has finally been made official. As is usual for Activision of late, you’ll want to buy the Digital Deluxe edition to get a character you got as a free unlockable in the PC version of the original THPS 3 — the Doom Slayer.
The Tony Hawk skateboarding series has landed on tougher times of late, which prompted Activision to release a compilation of the first two games in 2020. At the time, the company said it would gauge interest in seeing Pro Skater 3 and 4 arrive in a similar bundle. It seems the rerelease was popular enough for another go.
Grinding away at Pro Skater 3+4
You can actually expect a complete recreation of THPS 3 and 4 (the pinnacle of the non-open-world titles) from the arcade skating game that drops from 11 July this year. It’ll include “parks from the original games as well as new locations” but will also feature ” the original tours from both”. The previous release wasn’t quite as extensive, combining Tony Hawk 1 and 2 into something altogether new. All-new here is eight-player cross-platform multiplayer.
The original roster — Hawk, Muska, Mullen, Margera of Jackass fame, and the rest — will be joined by a few new faces. Olympic skaters Rayssa Leal and Yuto Horigome are among those joining the fun. A new location or two, one of which is an abandoned water park, will also debut in the revamped Pro Skater 3+4. The same is true of the game’s music. Activision will include new audio tracks for games to kick, grab, and grind along to, but serious nostalgia fans will face disappointment. They’ll include “tracks from the original soundtrack”, which sounds like a few old school bangers might be left out. Licensing issues, we’re sure.
As mentioned, you’ll want the Digital Deluxe edition. It includes access to the Doom Slayer and Revenant characters (the latter’s Special, seen in the trailer above, better be called Doot), as well as tracks from the recent (and excellent) Doom games. If you order that edition, you’ll also get three days of Early Access. If you just pre-order the base game, you, like Digital Deluxe Pro Skater 3+4 owners, will also get access to the Foundry demo (which won’t be available on the Nintendo Switch) in June of this year that features two skaters and two parks. One, obviously, is Foundry. The base edition will cost you R900, while the Digital Deluxe will set you back R1,255. It launches on PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S consoles in just a few months.
