Checkers’ Sixty60 delivery app, launched in the midst of the pandemic shutdown in South Africa, has changed the face of shopping in the country. It continues to do so, expanding its app-based delivery service to the other grocery store under the company banner — Shoprite.
The move shouldn’t be a surprise. There’s gold in them thar hills, after all. That isn’t the only change afoot for the service, either. The Shoprite Group has also announced an expansion of its Sixty60 services to Huawei’s mobile phone platform (via a new web store), which should net it more than 2.5 million (potential) customers.
Sixty60 head to ShopRite
Shoprite is known as the more affordable storefront for South Africans but until now, customers had to actually travel to a store to acquire those prices. The rollout isn’t total yet, but following a test launch in specific Western Cape and Gauteng stores, app-based delivery from Shoprite will shortly roll out in eight provinces.
Shoprite Group’s Neil Schreuder said, “After many months of working feverishly behind-the-scenes, we are excited to introduce Shoprite Sixty60 to locations where it can have a meaningful impact for consumers needing the convenience of home delivery, and where the logistics are in place to support a seamless experience.”
Shoprite Atlantis (Western Cape) and Shoprite Jabulani (Soweto) are already active, with stores in the Western Cape (Kleinmond) and Mpumalanga (Kriel) coming online later this month. All told, nineteen Shoprite outlets will wind up with little red delivery bikes zooming around their immediate areas.
