Samsung has unveiled the newest additions to its A-series smartphones: the Galaxy A56, A36, and A26. The A-series is the Galaxy’s budget wing, and Samsung hopes to give itself an edge by bringing more effective AI features to budget markets.
Samsung drives the A-series forward
The new Galaxy A-series joins a long-but-still-growing list of devices stuffed with AI features, as Samsung announces Awesome Intelligence, its version of an AI-based operating system. Like many of its competitors, Samsung has essentially put a little spin on pre-existing AI technologies, tied them together on a UI, deemed it an AI-based OS, and called it a day.
What pre-existing features does it entail, you may ask? The new budget Galaxy phones feature improved Circle to Search, which now accommodates phone numbers, URLs, and e-mail addresses. Users can also search for songs from whatever app they hear it without having to leave the app. The Galaxy A-series also features a triple camera system, crowned by a 50MP main camera, which includes Object Eraser, a feature that has been going viral for how much better it is on Android devices than the iPhone. A 5,000mAh battery allows up to 29 hours of total watch time, and a Gorilla Glass Victus screen ties it all together.
The flagship model in this series is the 6.7in Galaxy A56. This device includes the Best Face feature, which finds and uses the best facial expression among multiple group photos, where one odd face may mess with an otherwise perfect pic. Nightography also enhances low-light photography.. It is powered by an Exynos 1580 chipset.
The Galaxy A36 shares 10-bit HDR recording on its front camera and a Super AMOLED display of up to 1,200 nits brightness with the Galaxy A56. Both also have an IP67 dust and water rating, and all three new devices share that 6.7in 120Hz AMOLED display. It’s still unclear when the Galaxy A-series devices will ship, but the UK’s 19 March date should give us an approximate idea. In the US, the devices are priced as follows: the Galaxy A56 is $500 (R9,350), the A36 is $400 (R7,500), and the A26 is $300 (R5,600). Local pricing should be along soon enough. Samsung tends to go global more often than not these days.
